Project Summary: The Weyerhaeuser logging corporation owns approximately three tax parcels totaling 93 acres on the top of Blumauer Hill. Two of the parcels totaling 70 acres adjoins the the Tenino City Park property to the south. Current forest practice applications submitted by Weyerhaeuser to WDNR indicate that Weyerhaeuser plans to clear cut the entire 93 acres. The Weyerhaeuser property extends within 10-20 feet from the top of our beautiful Quarry Pool. An arborist retained by the city of Tenino has indicated that should Weyerhaeuser follow through with plans to log their entire property nearly all of the trees above the Quarry Pool (pictured above) would have to be logged as well to prevent them from blowing down in the absence of an effective wind break from the forest above. The citizens have spoken and determined that this is an unacceptable burden to be placed on our most widely recognized natural and historic treasures. The CPQP Task Force is working hard to coordinate a meeting with Weyerhaeuser to negotiate options that will be protective of the Quarry Pool and City Parks now and forever. More information will be posted as it becomes available.
Below is a 1990 aerial photograph of the Tenino area depicting the City Park, Heernett Foundation property and the Weyerhaeuser owned parcels. The Quarry Pool, the Train Depot Museum, and the school house are on the National Registry of Historic Places. Show your support or share your ideas by emailing one of the task force members listed above. Thanks
